Follow the Lighthouse Route along Nova Scotia's South Shore as it winds through historic
shipbuilding communities and traditional fishing villages. Discover lighthouses such
as the famous "Peggy's Cove Light", or explore the pristine white sand beaches and numerous
islands that dot this rugged coastline.
|
Follow Highway 103 along South Shore, past Liverpool. Just past Port Mouton, exit left onto St. Catherine's Road. Follow road (becomes unpaved), looking for brown National Park sign on left side, indicating trail-head. This is a very well groomed trail (mostly gravelled) which leads over bluff to the shore. Look for seals on the rocks to the right of trail entry to beach. Go left at shore to walk along the beautiful white sand of St. Catherines Beach. A great place to experience the serenity of Nova Scotia's coastline.
|
Take Hwy 103 to South Shore and exit #11 onto 324 towards Lunenburg. Turn right at intersection and straight through to Ovens, following signs. There are numerous trails and sea caves along the shore... or try your hand at panning for gold
on the beach. Please note that this is a privately run park and there is an admission fee to access the trails and caves.
|
Take Hwy 103 to South Shore and exit #5. Follow #333 along St. Margarets Bay south to Peggy's Cove. There are numerous trails along the shore of Peggy's Cove. It is advisable to dress warm for this area.
BEWARE OF WAVES... Several people have been swept out to sea along the shores of Peggy's Cove. Please keep a safe distance from water!
