The Halifax Outdoor Club was started in October 1994 by a small group of enthusiasts. It is run by the cooperative efforts of the participants. There is no formal structure.. the emphasis is on outdoor activities, not administration.

The club is sponsered by Hostelling International - NS (Youth Hostelling). HI-NS provides libability insurance and covers the mailout costs.

There are two Trip Planning meetings a year, in the spring and fall, and everyone is encouraged to participate. The Club activities include hiking, camping, kayak/canoeing and cross-country skiing. The level of difficulty ranges from easy to extreme.
