Hiking Trails of the Annapolis Valley
Nestled between South Mountain and the Bay of Fundy lies the fertile Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia's farming center.  Explore the trails of the Annapolis Valley by browsing through the listings below.
Cape Blomidon Print Version
Cape Blomidon Take Exit 11 off 101 through Annapolis Valley, follow 358 to Canning, keep right through Pereau to Blomidon Provincial Park.

Four well marked trails:
  • Borden Brook Trail ( 2km ) - Moderate Climb along spectacular falls.
  • Woodland Trail ( 3km ) - Pleasant forest stroll.
  • Look-off Trail ( 1.5km ) - Excellent views of Minas Basin.
  • Joudrey Trail ( 6km ) - Some difficult slopes, excellent views.

Notes: Excellent Provincial Park facilties... nice camping areas. Look for Red Trillium wildflowers in the Spring.

Cape Split Print Version
Cape Split Take Exit 11 (Wolfville) off 101 in Valley; follow 358 North to Scots Bay. Park in lot at end of road, across from house. Trail is marked by sign at end of parking area. Follow trail along barbed fence to fence corner:
  • Keep right along fence to easy Main Trail.
  • Keep left to difficult Coastal Trail.

Roughly 16 km ( return ) hike.

Warning: Beware of dangerous high tides which can easily trap unwary explorers.

Warning: Coastal Trail is a difficult hike due to steep climbs and eroded trail edges.

Dawson Brook Falls Print Version
Dawson Brook Falls From Halifax, follow Highway 101 towards Annapolis Valley. Look for gated logging road (unpaved) on left side, roughly 3 km before the Ellerhouse Overpass. Park on road side and walk down the access road until you see bridge across Dawson Brook. Just before bridge a path forks right into woods. Follow this right path along bank of brook until you hear the waterfall.

Delaps Cove Print Version
Delaps Cove Take Exit 20 (Bridgetown) off 101, follow Hwy 1 past Granville Centre, turn right to Parker's Cove, then left to Delaps Cove. Look for "Wilderness Trail" sign on left and turn onto dirt road to parking area.

Grand Pre Print Version
Acadian Church, Grand Pre Follow Hwy #101 to Annapolis Valley and take exit #10 onto Hwy #1. Follow road for short distance and turn right at sign (just after corner gas station). After crossing train tracks turn right into Grand Pré parking lot. Numerous trails around Acadian church and along dykes. Note beautiful grounds and gardens in spring and summer.

Kentville Ravine Print Version
Kentville Ravine Take Exit 12 off 101, follow Hwy 1 to Kentville Agricultural Research Complex, turn onto Complex, park at picnic grounds. Nice easy (2 km) stroll through old growth forest to falls.

Long Island Balancing Rock Print Version
Long Island Balancing Rock From Halifax, follow Hwy 101 to Annapolis Valley. Take exit #26 to Digby, then follow signs to Route 217 towards Digby Neck. Follow Route 217 to Long Island (must cross on ferry to Tiverton). Watch for signs to the balancing rock trail on left.

Follow trail short distance to coastline where it descends sharply to the balancing rock viewing platform. The balancing rock is a spectacular columnar basalt sea stack that rests precariously on it's end. You have to see it to believe it :)

Valleyview Park Print Version
Valleyview Park Follow Highway 101 through Annapolis Valley; exit onto old Highway 1 towards Bridgetown. Turn right in Bridgetown onto Church Street and follow up North Mountain until you see Provincial Park signs; turn right into park. This is a very nice park, offering a picnic park and campground with a spectacular view of the Annapolis Valley (from Middleton to Digby on a clear day).
